If you have a concrete driveway and it is looking dirty, this can take away from the aesthetics of your home. Fortunately, you can use a pressure washer to get the driveway clean. A pressure washer can also be used to clean other concrete, such as concrete sidewalks or a patio. If you do not have a pressure washer, you can rent one from a home improvement store. Keep reading on how to pressure wash the driveway so you do not cause damage.
Prepare the Concrete
Before you get started, you first need to prepare the concrete. First, make sure there is no debris on the driveway. You can use a leaf blower or a large broom to do this. Once this is done, purchase a concrete degreaser at a home improvement store and spray this generously on the concrete. Use a broom or a scrub brush to rub the degreaser on the concrete. This degreaser will clean off surface dirt and spills, making it much easier for you to use the pressure washer. There are some pressure washers that come with an attachment to allow you to spray the degreaser over the concrete.
Use the Pressure Washer
Purchase a cleaner that is made to clean concrete to use in the pressure washer. This is important as concrete cleaner will not only work better but will not damage your driveway. Read the instruction manual that came with your pressure washer on how to use it. Many of them work the same, however,
First connect the sprayer wand to the water supply, which is generally a garden hose. The pressure washer has different nozzles that you can use. For concrete, a low-pressure nozzle works best to clean, and a high-pressure nozzle works best to rinse the cleaner off the driveway. Start at the beginning of the driveway and work your way down to the end. Move the wand back and forth over the concrete slowly to clean it. You may need to go over some areas more than once if there is a lot of dirt built up or stains. Once the cleaner is applied, let the driveway sit for a few minutes. The cleaner you purchase will tell you how long this should be.
After this time, put on the high-pressure nozzle and change the setting on the pressure washer to rinse. You then rinse the driveway in the same way that you cleaned it.
If you do not feel comfortable using a pressure washer, hire a concrete pressure washing company to do this job for you.
