Vacation Home Flooded And Now Have Mold? Hire A Mold Removal Service

If you have a vacation home that has flooded, mold can easily grow as all it needs is moisture. If the home stayed wet for a long period, mold can build up over time and get much worse. You need to make sure you get the mold out as soon as possible. The best way to deal with mold is to hire a mold removal service to help you. Below is information on what they do to get mold out of homes.

Do an Inspection

The first thing a mold removal service does is a full inspection of the home. This will tell them where the mold is so they know where to clean. There may be mold in areas you may not have considered. There may even be mold behind walls or under flooring because you had a flood. Once they find the mold, they will determine the type of mold you have. It is likely standard mold and mildew. There is black mold, which is much more dangerous. The contractor may send a sample of the mold to a lab to have it tested if they are not sure.

Remove Items

The contractor will remove anything that is wet that can be removed from the home. This could be wet furniture, clothing, and other items. They may also have to remove carpeting, drywall, and plaster. All this can result in a lot of damage, but this process is needed to get the mold out of the home. When they remove the carpeting, this allows them to see if there is mold growing on the floor. If so, there may be mold on the floorboards. If a wall stayed wet, the mold can get behind the wall and onto the drywall and plaster. Anything that can will be bagged and disposed of properly. There may be state laws on how they can dispose of moldy items.

Spray the Mold

The contractor first uses a biocide spray to spray the mold to kill the mold spores. This generally does not take a lot of time as the biocide is in a pump spray or a spray can, making it easy to put the biocide on all the molds. This is an important part of the process as killing the mold will help prevent it from growing back again. If not all mold spores are killed, you will see mold come back quickly in the areas. The biocide has to completely dry before the contractor can continue.

Encapsulate Room

The contractor will encapsulate the room where the mold is found. They do this by spraying a type of paint on the walls, ceiling, and flooring to make sure everything is thoroughly covered. You will also hear this referred to as a whitewash. This is done to kill any mold spores that may be left behind.

The mold removal service can give you much more information on how they do the mold removal.
